TMV Announces Selection of OVIK Special Vehicles to take TMV Design Forward

DESIGN - PROTOTYPE - TEST - BUILD - SUPPLY - SUPPORT

TMV are pleased to announce the appointment of OVIK Special Vehicles as the lead design and prototype house for the next phase of TMV development.

Based upon the unique STRIVE© chassis system TMV’s core design features multi-wheel drive and multi-wheel steer together with variable suspension to produce a range of base platforms with unrivalled mobility in their respective classes.

Following three years of in-house research and development TMV have engaged OVIK to continue to develop a TMV chassis based upon the OVIK STRIVE© system and to design a new, more commercially focussed series of platforms ranging from the 7.0 tonne - 17 tonne GVW weight category.

NEWS.... Selection of OVIK Special Vehicles as Design Development House

TMV Development Continues in Dorset

TMV are pleased to announce the appointment of OVIK Special Vehicles as the lead design and prototype house for the next phase of TMV development.

Based upon the unique OVIK STRIVE© chassis system TMV’s core design features multi-wheel drive and multi-wheel steer together with variable suspension to produce a range of base platforms with unrivalled mobility in their respective classes.

Following three years of in-house research and development TMV have engaged OVIK to continue to develop the 10 tonne TMV chassis (aimed at the defence sector) and to design a new, more commercially focussed platform within the 7.5 tonne GVW weight category.

“We’ve learnt a huge amount over the past three years of RnD” said Stuart McDonagh, CFO TMV “it’s logical now to take the design to the next level whilst applying what we’ve already learnt.  We have significant interest from the commercial sector for a vehicle with such high levels of mobility and payload and, given the very tangible slow-down in the defence sector, we have decided to embark upon a twin-track approach.  We intend to continue to develop a range of chassis for defence whilst simultaneously looking to exploit the obvious commercial potential of the multi wheel steer-drive chassis system which we’re now promoting as the STRIVE© Chassis System”.

The OVIK STRIVE© chassis system is designed to offer the specialist commercial vehicle sector a ready-built, extreme terrain, all wheel steer chassis with a 3.5 tonne per axle max GVW – onto which specialist integrators can build bodies for various applications. STRIVE© will be available in 4x4, 6x6, 8x8 and 10x10 format with varying combinations of driven and steered axles dependent upon role and payload configuration. The entire STRIVE© chassis is designed to be a fully modular, segmented unit which can be built up to the required configuration and number of axles.

The STRIVE© chassis presents 3rd party integrators with the opportnity to acquire an uncluttered, fully operational, multi wheel drive, multi-wheel steer, super-all-terrain chassis ready for superstructure integration to which they can add capability and value before offering the complete system on to their own customer base.

“Our business model going forward sees us working with other, specialist vehicle body builders across a range of sectors – offering them an unrivalled all-terrain base platform ready for body structure integration. We don’t plan to be a jack-of-all trades – building all manner of specialist bodies but rather a master of one – designers and producers of high mobility chassis. We see this multi-sector approach and engagement with other vehicle integrators as a key part of our on-going business model” said McDonagh.

“We are also looking at a range of contemporary technologies for integration, including hybrid electric drive technology. TMV have engaged OVIK because of their rapidly evolving design and prototyping capability and in particular because of the applicability of thier STRIVE© system to TMV; they’re a young and dynamic company with great ideas and excellent in-house design capability underpinned by a wealth of relevant experience”.

OVIK will undertake the design and prototyping at their new Dorset HQ adjacent to the Armour Centre training area in Bovington.

“We’ve watched TMV and its products evolve over the past few years and we’re extremely pleased to have been selected to take the platform design and prototyping forward to market” said Jez Hermer, CEO OVIK Special Vehicles and TMV Project Manager.

“TMV owns some unique technological applications which represent a really exciting opportunity for OVIK’s design and development team. The twin-track, commercial and defence approach allows us to get started on a lighter and even more manoeuvrable chassis based on the OVIK STRIVE© system whilst continuing to develop a modular, medium-weight defence focussed chassis based upon the existing 10 tonne platform.  Our plan is to consider all viable new technologies as we carry out our research and development programme.   Having the scope to investigate and apply new technology is a great opportunity for us and we’ll be looking closely at electric hybrid drive systems and the many huge benefits that can be achieved through application of that kind of technology”.

OVIK’s design capability continues to expand with former CREATION UK Ltd owner Bill Davis joining the team as Design Director in the near future.  Under Bill’s leadership CREATION UK Ltd designed the RANGER and ZEPHYR vehicles and the Lockheed Martin AVA – amongst many others.

“Bill will bring with him a depth of experience which will complement and broaden OVIK’s existing design and build capability” said Duncan Hermer, OVIK MD “This is a key and high profile contract for OVIK and it’s great to have Bill Davis along for the journey”.
